The MDA announced on April 8 that Brent Christensen would resign as director and report as head of the Greensboro Partnership in North Carolina by June. 1. Christensen has held the job for three years.
Bryant told the Journal on April 8 that “I have a sense of urgency because we want people to know we are serious about this position.”
“That may or may not include a national search,” he continued in an email. “There are certainly individuals in Mississippi who can do a good job.”
McCullough, 60, whom Bryant named to the Institutions of Higher Learning board in February, said he would take his seat on that panel in May.
He is chairman and chief executive of GLM Associates LLC and a partner in Ardillo, McCullough and Taggart LLC, both in Tupelo.
The Tupelo resident was nominated by then-President Bill Clinton in 1999 to the TVA board and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Former President George W. Bush named him chairman of the board, a position he held from July 2001 to May 2005. He had been elected mayor of the northeast Mississippi city in 1997 and served in that capacity till he joined the TVA board two years later.
He lost in a Republican runoff in 2008 when he sought to become congressman for the 1st Congressional District.
